waterparks circa 2017, on a yellow background
welcome to my cherry-red-natural-blue-sour-green-funeral-grey insanity. yes, those are all lyrics from them.

american pop-rock band "waterparks" has me in a chokehold. please save me!

waterparks (or "parx," as they're often referred to) are a band with a varied history, both musically and otherwise. they formed in houston, texas, in 2011. i was. 5 years old back then, so obviously i wouldn't have been a fan, nor a person who knows the lore from back then. i'm currently referencing a tumblr post (made by a pretty cool page btw!) to even find the names of the original band members!

my shitty retelling of their origins:

parx originally had 5 members, pulled together across states, trying to make it work. they were called "blue poptarts" before all 5 members came together, and "over 9000!" when otto wood was introduced to the lineup. he would drift from the band before much of note happened. their first song was "i was hiding under your porch because i love you." then came "silver." a few members split off over the years. the only member that blue poptarts and over 9000! have in common with waterparks is awsten knight. otto wood is still in the band today, even though he drifted from them between 2011 and 2012. awsten asked him to come back to the band after losing most of their members due to creative differences and personal conflict. when awsten was introduced to geoff wingington, the current-day waterparks lineup was formed. geoff on lead guitar, awsten on lead vocals and secondary guitar, and otto on drums. waterparks.

back on topic now:

anyway. my point is. i have not been a fan for that long considering they've existed for.. 14 years! but waterparks are one of my favorite bands, and the band i'm luckiest to be witnessing in "real time," rather than in retrospect after they've dissolved. their discography has changed from pop-punk, but people still pin them down to that label or expect them to stay with it! and it's sad! the best thing about parx is the fact that they're so fluid and consistently changing, growing bigger and better. i have a soft spot for early parx-- so i understand being sad that their new stuff is more popular, more pop, more electronic, whatever. but i realized (quite recently, actually) that they haven't fallen off, they haven't sold out, nothing like that. they're doing their own thing. and the best part of being a parx fan is coming along on the ride.

some objectively correct parx music opinions (definitely not a thinly-veiled excuse to try out using a table):
